Ingredients

  • 4-6 thick slices or wholewheat bread
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 cup of milk
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground pumpkin pie spice
  • 1 tablespoon butter

  • Orange Syrup

  • 1 cup maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon orange marmalade

Cooking Instructions

  • If desired, slice the crusts off of the bread slices (they make good bread crumbs).
  • Combine the eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla and spice in a bowl or blender.
  • Soak the bread slices in the batter, turning the slices once ensuring that both sides are soaked through.
  • Bring a light oiled saucepan to medium-high heat.
  • Add a tablespoon or so of butter and swirl it over the surface of the pan, then add the bread slices.
  • Turn them over when the bottom is the desired shade of golden brown and cook the second side.
  • To make the orange syrup. Mix ingredients together and serve warm. Refrigerate any leftover syrup.
